Toy Phones a Choking Hazard

An Illinois company is recalling over thirty thousand toy phones because it has a ball-shaped antenna which can detach, posing a choking risk to young children.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Illinois-based VTech Industries received one report of a child choking and nine reports of the plastic balls detaching from the toy.

 

The Little Smart Soft Songs Baby Phone is yellow with a blue padded border and a yellow ball-shaped antenna. It has a mirror, a ringing light-up phone button, four colorful talking musical buttons and a red on/off button. The toy reads Soft Songs Baby Phone 39100 and VTECH. The phones nationwide in Wal-Mart stores from January - May for around $10.

The safety commission advises consumers to take the toy phones away from children immediately. For more information, consumers can contact VTech at1-800-521-2010 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday.
